Preparation of a Draft Integrated

Urban Strategy for

Newcastle West

 

With funding from the EU-supported THRIVE programme – Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme, Limerick City and County Council has prepared a Draft Integrated Urban Strategy for Newcastle West. The Draft Strategy includes a socio-economic analysis of the town and findings from a local consultation process engaging community, businesses, public bodies and other stakeholders.  The Draft Strategy presents the Vision for the town, Strategic Pillars and Key Projects that could support revitalisation of the town centre and protect its important heritage.

The aim of the Draft Integrated Urban Strategy is to make Newcastle West a great place to live for all age groups and sections of the community, a great place to work, to run a business and to visit. This strategy is focused on Newcastle West town centre and its revitalisation.

The Draft Integrated Urban Strategy for Newcastle West is on public display during normal office hours from Saturday 29th March 2025 to Tuesday 6th May 2025 inclusive at the following locations:

  • Limerick City and County Council, Corporate Headquarters, Merchants Quay, Limerick;
  • Limerick City and County Council, County Hall, Dooradoyle Road, Limerick;
  • Newcastle West Municipal Office, Áras William Smith O’Brien, Gortboy, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick;
  • Public library in Newcastle West;
  • Online at www.limerick.ie/council  

As part of this stage of the public consultation process, Limerick City and County Council invites the public to come along to the following open drop-in event that will take place on:

  • Thursday 10th April 2025 from 5pm to 8pm in Newcastle West Municipal Office;
  • Tuesday 15th April 2025 from 2pm to 5pm in Newcastle West Municipal Office;
  • Friday 25th April 2025 from 12pm to 4pm in the Square, Newcastle West.

Submissions or observations on the Draft Integrated Urban Strategy may be made between Saturday 29th March 2025 to Tuesday 6th May 2025 inclusive, via the following methods:

Please make your submission by one medium only i.e. in hard copy, online or email by 5pm on Tuesday 6th May 2025 for consideration and inclusion in the Plan.
