NOTICE OF PROPOSED APPLICATION FOR QUIET AREA DESIGNATION FOR THE PEOPLE’S PARK, LIMERICK CITY
Access to urban parks with good quality sound is of major importance for people living in cities for social and health related benefits. The People’s Park is identified as a Candidate Quiet Area under the Agglomeration of Limerick Noise Action Plan 2024-2028. Investigations indicate that natural and human sounds in the park are mainly perceived as being pleasant by visitors.
Pursuant to the provisions of Section 10(1) of the Environmental Noise Regulations, 2018 (as amended), Limerick City and County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to consult with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and apply for approval of the Minister for the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment to designate the People’s Park, Limerick City, as a Quiet Area.
The public consultation phase will be open from 23 August to 19 September 2025 with associated materials for inspection at the following locations:
Limerick City and County Council, County Hall, Dooradoyle Limerick (Mon-Fri, 9a.m.-5p.m.);
Limerick City and County Council, City Hall, Merchants Quay, Limerick (Mon-Fri, 9a.m.-5p.m.);
Limerick County Library, Dooradoyle, Limerick (Mon–Sat, 10a.m.–5 p.m., except Tues/Thurs closing at 8 p.m.);
Limerick City Library, Barrow House, Michael Street, Limerick (Mon–Sat, 10a.m.–5 p.m., except Tues/Thurs closing at 8 p.m.).
