Retail, Commercial, Employment and Enterprise
Patrickswell is a service centre for its own community and rural hinterland. The village is predominantly a commuter village, primarily due to its proximity to Limerick City and Raheen Industrial Estate. Most of the economic activity in Patrickswell is centred on Main Street which includes a post office, two service stations, smaller comparison retailers and services, while Patrickswell Enterprise Centre, west of the village centre is home to a number of small to medium scale enterprises. Educational, health and community facilities include a primary school, GAA field, soccer pitch and a Garda station.
The development of local enterprise and employment in the village and any expansion of existing facilities needs to be planned and managed to ensure an appropriate mix of facilities to sustain a vibrant village. The proposed plan will need to
examine and identify any shortfalls in the provision of services and allow for the adequate zoning of lands to facilitate this type of development.
