Limerick City & County Council is developing a new food-led tourism initiative as part of an EU-funded project called SLOWTOUR. The project focuses on “slow tourism”, which means creating more meaningful and relaxed visitor experiences, encouraging people to spend more time in a place, connect with local people and experience local culture, food and heritage in an authentic way.
Slow tourism is a community centred, low carbon approach to destination development that prioritises longer stays, meaningful engagement with place, environmental stewardship, and the retention of local economic value, ensuring that tourism enhances quality of life for residents while improving the quality of experience for visitors.
In Limerick, this includes celebrating our food heritage, local producers, markets, traditional and modern food culture, and connecting it with the city's industrial and cultural heritage, such as historic market areas, riverfront spaces and former industrial sites that shape Limerick’s identity today.
As part of this, we are exploring the development of a SLOWTOUR Food Festival and related experiences. We would really value your input to help shape the programme so that it reflects local identity and works well for both residents and visitors.
This short survey will take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous.
Complete the survey by 19th June for a chance to win a €50 Limerick Gift Card!
The initiative is supported through the EU Interreg North-West Europe Programme as part of the SLOWTOUR project
