I support the cycle lane going on Henry Street and South Circular Road
I support the new planned route on South Circular Rd. At present it feels there is no safe route to access the city by bike. It is dominated by cars & makes it feel very unsafe to bring children into the city by bike.
This is a key missing artery in the Limerick Bicycle Network and has the potential to vastly increase the number of bicycles and decrease car traffic
I like it (mainly).
Proposal is needed to enhance life in the city and reduce dependance on cars.
Absolutely welcome addition, and shows how Limerick are leading the way in active mobility in Ireland
As a regular cyclist, I would rather have a wider road space than a poorly designed, constructed and maintained cycle track.
This is a flawed, under researched, fragmented plan that targets local roads and avenues. It should target the main routes into and out of the city with cycle lanes. It targets small pockets of residents. It targets our older and infirm local residents with parking and driving restrictions. It targets local business with parking restrictions
Cycling infrastructure in critical
Cycles networks literally only have positive impacts, they are good.
The proposal should be rejected. The routing of a dedicated cycle lane down a narrow already congested section of the South Circular Road at the expense of all residents parking between the junction with SCR/ Asbourne Ave. / New St. and the junction with Alphonsus Street renders the area uninhabitable.
NO to kerbside traffic lane as currently planned. Yes to making Henry St one way from Clareview Terrace to Arthur's Quay. Yes to herringbone parking format. Yes to improving our neighbourhood. Yes to reducing traffic. Yes to bike lanes. Yes to using Limerick's lanes as bike paths.
Favourable towards enhanced road use for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists
Support the plan;
I'm a resident in Mungret and infrequently cycle to the city centre. With my family I normally drive as I feel that it is unsafe to cycle. As part of CO2 reduction and a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle, I think that it would be great to have a safe passage from the Raheen area connecting to the city centre
I strongly support the South Circular Road to city centre active travel plan.
The plan must go ahead.
This is a potentially transformative plan
Negative impact on the residents of the South Circular Road
Transport and health are inextricably linked. Traffic air pollution has a severe negative impact on the health of our citizens and is known to be a causal factor in respiratory and cardiovascular disease, cancer, as well as increasing evidence for a link between air pollution and dementia. The development of a joined up cycle corridor from SCR to the city centre will likely have a significant impact on air quality through reduction in carcinogenic particulate matter and positive impact on the health of people living in the area. This is of particular importance in light of the high rate of childhood asthma in Limerick and the number of schools and Mary Immaculate College in the vicinity
Please put in the cycling lane on the card.
Needed piece of cycling infrastructure
As a Healthcare provider I support this proposal and congratulate the designers on the development of this plan.
Welcome this key climate action
Amend scheme to improve safety for all road users
I support the scheme but preferably with modifications. Prioritise Traffic Reduction. Close off Ballinacurra Road access inbound. Keep Parking as much as possible. Make Lifford ave One-Way out if residents support this, with traffic lights at B Road. Fund building of set down area for Scoil Máthair Dé. Cycle lane for Modhscoil through MIC Campus from SCR. Consult with home owners from MIC to Laurel Hill Ave stretch re extra parking spaces that can be provided and ability for deliveries to pull up at off peak times. Make all newly created parking spaces Residential Permit Only. Improve lighting/security. Change terrace after Redemptorists to Shared cycle lane inwards with ramps, and segregated lane outwards. Implement Henry Street residents and traders suggestions re one way, parking and removing seating. Add more planting everywhere possible. Fund affected residents who would like to create off-street parking.
I strongly support the scheme
Limerick School Project’s board broadly supports improvements to active travel arrangements in Limerick City. Limerick City and County Council should be commended for their efforts to date. Specifically related to the “Part 8 - South Circular Road to City Centre Active Travel Scheme” surrounding the school, we see some very welcome plans to improve and widen paths and especially the plans for path continuance at road crossings at Clontarf Place, O'Curry Street, St. Gerard's Street and St. Alphonsus Street. This will greatly improve safety for children on approach routes to the school and we sincerely hope it survives to implementation by the council.
In summary, the plan has several positive aspects but requires the inclusion of specific mitigation measures - these must ensure that residents can continue to avail of support services, can upgrade and adapt their homes in line with national energy policy , and if driving, can safely reach the road network in the Dooradoyle direction
Prioritise Traffic Reduction. Close off Ballinacurra Road from Flyover. Keep Ballinacurra Rd end of SCR two way for residents with planting and parking where possible. Make Lifford Ave One way out with traffic lights. Have Scoil Mathair Day move wall back for set down area. Have a spike off cycle lane through MIC to facilitate Modhscoil cycling families. Mark out all the extra parking identified here for residents from MIC to Redemptorists, with way better lighting for safety at night on this stretch. Use a shared surface for cars and cyclists into town and contra flow out for the short section from Reds to Henry Street, Make Henry St One way as suggested by residents and traders and keep parking and add planting!
In favour of the development
I oppose the current proposals for the South Circular Road.
Opposed to the current plans for Lifford Avenue
Propose Dock road is used for this scheme instead of SCR
Positive, if it isnt watered down
The proposal should be rejected. The routing of a dedicated cycle lane down a narrow already congested section of the South Circular Road at the expense of all residents parking between Fennessy's Roundabout and the junction with Alphonsus Street renders the area uninhabitable. This should be rejected out of hand
Hello my family has lived in the ballinacurra area for 40 years. My friends that I visit regularly live on SCR too. The new council proposal to have all the traiffic use Lifford Ave and the removal of all parking on SCR road is beyond ridiculous. A lot of elderly live in the area. Where would you like them to park? Do they have to walk to a bus stop with their sticks to get a bus? Or do you expect 80 year olds to get on a bike? The number of people that would benefit from a bike lane in this area is minimal. Im guess maybe 4 a day. The amount of people who will suffer, namely the residents, is huge. If you want to put in a bike lane put it on the dock road. Its wide enough, no residents etc. Its the most logical place.
I fully support the proposals as outlined. This scheme will improve the accessibility, infrastructure and air quality in the area.
Cycling and active travel are the future of intercity transport - resisting risks being left behind - embracing it is a smart investment in the future of the city
I am very strongly in favour of the proposed active travel route along the South Circular Road. It is imperative to redesign such a major artery (close to schools, a university, the regional hospital, shopping, and communities) to allow for quieter, cleaner, less alienating modes of transport.
Positive acceptance of the proposal
Positive acceptance of the proposal
We will need traffic lights at the Ballinacurra Junction to help with exiting the area which will be difficult. Lack of enforcement of traffic regulation s will need to be addressed. Parking further in will be problematic for all residents, but particularly older people
I am not in favour of the proposed changes
I support the proposal
Please don't make this section of Rd a oneway
Fully supportive of the proposed plan.
Objection yo cycle lanes as currently planned
As a resident I have no issue with reducing traffic in the area, traffic calming measures, enforcement of existing parking regulations, reducing speed limits in order to share the road space with cyclists who wish to cycle through the area. However, this must be done while respecting the needs of residents and without reduction of existing car parking which is vital to residents and visitors.
Retain parking on Henry street
Exit from my area will be difficult under this proposal. Parking further in will be problematic for older people. Lack of enforcement of existing laws is a huge factor in the current problems.
This plan has not considered the wider effects on traffic in the immediate Limerick city area. It feels as if this plan is sent down onto the residents rather than developed with them in mind to allow those who actually live in the city have a better life.
Park and stride system addition to add to the proposed scheme, Biodiversity - to include a fusion of novel biodiversity art features with the ACA historical information points. Biodiversity - include fruit trees to enable limerick citizens to forage for fun to enhance an interest in nature.
As the owner of 83/84 Henry Street I would like to support the Cycle Lane but with the amendments listed below:
Excellent scheme but requiring additional traffic calming measures.
Filtered Permeability
I Support
Bicycle paths should be extended to connect with O'Connell Street
This is so important to future proof our city and enable more people to walk and cycle around the city and link the different sides of the city to each other.
