What are we doing?
Limerick City and County Council are currently developing design proposals for a canopy on Cruises Street as part of the Market Quarter and Cruise's Street Public Realm Upgrades project. The project aims to position Cruises Street as a key shopping location within the city for both locals and tourists by installing a canopy at Quimper Square which will create a strong focal point on Cruises Street, providing shelter from the elements, a location where activities could be held in order to help enliven the street, creating greater footfall and enhancing economic opportunities and a more positive public realm.
The long-term ambition and strategic goal of the Market Quarter area is to increase investment, occupancy, development and economic growth by providing a high-quality public realm that supports the operations of local businesses in the area. Additionally, the Market Quarter project aims to improve connectivity, accessibility and wayfinding between O'Connell Street, Opera Square, Arthur's Quay and the Milk Market and increase investment, safety, footfall and vibrancy in the area.
How can you help?
We want to explore how we might make this key part of the city centre a more attractive, vibrant and better functioning street for all its users. Your views and experience help us understand the full range of opportunities and challenges the area faces.
The Exhibition
The display provides background information on the project, drawings and visualisations of the emerging canopy design and the opportunity to contribute your views and feedback.
We look forward to meeting you on Thursday 4th June 2026 and hearing your views on the future of the Market Quarter.
