Litir Chumhdaigh
I am a young citizen In Limerick City, being born here and living here for 26 years. I want Limerick be seen as a desirable place to live and as an equal with other European Cities.
In 2022 it seems absolutely ridiculous that a submission of support even needs to be submitted for a cycle lane from one of the largest suburbs in Limerick to the city centre. Try and do the right thing, Limerick city council, and make the city a more accessible, modern, and greener place for its inhabitants. This isn't some experiment that you're being asked to take on, just look at any city in Europe that has a high standard of living and nice public spaces. They all put people first and leave cars out of cities, as it should be. Limerick is a small city that is crying out for a cycle network.
To strive towards a greener, sustainable, and regenerative city, we can't seriously even entertain ideas of objection of the literal bare minimum with regards to cycle lanes. Congested, car centric cities don't work. It's not a secret. So when peoples objections to positive initiatives like this are entertained than it is damaging to this cities future.
Why shouldn't Limerick act as a leader in a greener future and not trail behind so embarassingly?
Make more cycle lanes.
Because cycling is good for peoples health, the environment, and makes more desirable spaces in the city.
