    Parking Issue

Parking will always be an issue in Newcastle West if there is no provision of a significantly greater number of parking spaces. My suggestion would be to purchase the long vacant and/or under-utilised former Tadhg O'Connor building near the end of Lower Maiden Street. The fact that it has openings on both Maiden Street and the N21 would allow for relatively smooth entry-exit. This would need to be a multi-storey car park but given the two level nature of the this is a benefit.

An Arts Facility for Newcastle West

Newcastle West has a strong arts and culture base but suffers badly from the lack of a performance centre. The Draft Integrated Strategy contains several references to a lack of activity in this area. From where I stand as a volunteer promoter of the arts since 1980, I am convinced that this is largely attributable to the lack of a suitable arts and culture facility. For several years I have proposed/argued that the Courthouse, which is not fit for the current purpose it is meant to serve, would be suited to refurbishment and extension into a state of the art performance centre. There is space adjacent to the Primary Care Centre where a modern Courthouse could be built.
