Litir Chumhdaigh
Southill Hub is a community centre in the heart of Southill. The centre was opened in
2007 to address a gap in provision as identified by the local community and to provide a
social space for the community. The Southill community faces many challenges, in social
and socio economic terms, and is classed as extremely disadvantaged under the Pobal
deprivation index. We work with the local community to identify their interests and needs and respond
accordingly. A core element of our work in the community is to give the residents a voice
and empower them to effect change within their local area.
The Regeneration Programme and associated Economic and Social Intervention Fund will finish in December 2023. In order to respond effectively to the social disadvantage and deprivation of these areas it essential that the social and economic programmes continue. To continue to address the consistent issues with social exclusion, low employment rates community centres require consistent, long term and secure funding. Working in partnership is a key aspect to address the inequalities of these communities – see the linked report here which identifies the key strategies community organisations in Southill will lead on to support the community of Southill - Stronger Together Report
Long term, consistent, secure funding.
