Chapter 2 - Planning Report and Drawings

1. There is no overall Traffic impact assessment beyond the roads that will be impacted. Where are the details on what will happen on Ballinacurra Road, The Dock Road, Summerville Avenue, etc. This plan must be part of an overall solution.

2. We saw with the partial bus lane on the Ballinacurra road that items partially implemented only add to further chaos.

3. With respect to exiting SCR onto Ballianacurra, especially turning right will be even more challenging than it is today as it is only the pedestrian crossing going to red that often allows cars to exit. Punchs, in their wisdom have moved the Pedestrian crossing to the right of SCR when exiting onto Ballinacurra. This will mean there is no chance for cars to exit in the Dooradoyle direction. This highlights that the consultants did not study this exit and it shows a deeper lack of insight / planning.

3. Entering SCR from Ballinacurra in direction, prior to Green Park close I notice this is a shared thoroughfare, how can this be any safer than what we have already?

4. There is no impact on the traffic volumes on Lifford Avenue.

5. There is no right turn from Lifford Avenue but you must turn right and then left to enter Boreen A Tobair (I notive several different spellings of this on the maps report). On the new plan it is not a straight junction.

6. What is the plans for Bus parking for students going to Mary I or any of the other schools?

7. What is the plans for where cars will pull in to drop / collect their children from Scoil Mhaithar De, St Clements and worst of all Laurel Hill?

8. Mount Gerard Court will now be a complete no go area during drop off / collections. Perhaps it's time for the entry from SCR to Mount Gerard Court to be only for resident access?

9. I believe with this plan it's now time for Summerville avenue to become a propoer two way street and to eliminate on street parking to assist with correct traffic flow. Maybe this could be also a shared thoroughfare for bikes / cars in both directions - in the same way that the upper SCR is going to be?

10. Redemptorist church - at busy service times many cars park on footpaths - never policed. Where are these going?

11. What about purchasing the land that was the former St Clements to provide resident parking for this whole area.

12. How are home deliveries going to be made without stopping traffic flow.

13 Quin Street and St Gerard Street - what are the implications of making these one way? proposed traffic volumes, How to get a large volume of traffic turning right from St Gerard Street onto O'Connell avenue?

14. What is the impact on the traders on this new corridor?

I am no planning specialist but I believe there a huge number of issues that need to be addressed before we proceed.

Main opinion:

This plan has not considered the wider effects on traffic in the immediate Limerick city area. It feels as if this plan is sent down onto the residents rather than developed with them in mind to allow those who actually live in the city have a better life.

Main requests:

Please carry out impact studies on Traffic in the city. Ensure there is a model to show how it all works together. Explain how older people without parking can exist. Protect residents from illegal stopping / parking of cars.

Main reasons:

Insufficient planning inputs. Data taken over too short a period. No overall traffic / movement plan. Yet another piecemeal piece of change in the City.
