Chapter 2 - Planning Report and Drawings

From a personal perspective the cycle corridor to Henry street from the SCR will make my journey to/from work much safer. The SCR in particular is quite narrow in places and the volume of traffic on Henry street with no segregated cycle lane, in my opinion make these roads unsafe for cycling in their current format

Main opinion:

Transport and health are inextricably linked. Traffic air pollution has a severe negative impact on the health of our citizens and is known to be a causal factor in respiratory and cardiovascular disease, cancer, as well as increasing evidence for a link between air pollution and dementia. The development of a joined up cycle corridor from SCR to the city centre will likely have a significant impact on air quality through reduction in carcinogenic particulate matter and positive impact on the health of people living in the area. This is of particular importance in light of the high rate of childhood asthma in Limerick and the number of schools and Mary Immaculate College in the vicinity

Main requests:

I fully support the plans for the development of the south circular road to city centre active travel scheme in the interest of public health and safety in Limerick City

Main reasons:

Public health, safety for pedestrians and cyclists
