Support for Scheme
As a local resident I am very much in favour of this scheme. I am not a confident cyclist and so safe infrastructure makes a big difference to my ability to travel around the city by bike. Once linked to the Fr Russell Rd cycle scheme it will provide a safe route for me to cycle with my children to visit my parents, a journey that would currently require me to travel along O’Connell Ave through heavy vehicular traffic
As a pedestrian, upgrades to the footpaths all along the scr and into town are desperately needed, along with safer crossings at all junctions. At peak hours, particularly in the mornings, the junctions at either end of St Gerard St are very dangerous. There are huge numbers of children crossing here daily and the level of motorists breaking the lights is shocking. This is a major safely issue that needs addressing. Enforcement is needed as well as some kind of traffic calming on Gerard st.
There have been a few previous suggestions that I’d like to offer my support. The suggestion of continuing the one way further down Henry St as far as Mallow St. so that some parking could be retained. I also agree that traffic lights should be implemented at the junction of Lifford and Ballinacurra Rd.
