Chapter 4 – Town Centre First Approach

I would ask Limerick City and County Council to reconsider the proposal for a Groody River Walk in Caherconlish. The plan as proposed will hinder the security, privacy and safety of residents along the proposed route. As a resident and homeowner whose property will be impacted by the proposed walkway (the current plan will involve part of my garden being used for the walkway) I am concerned that my family's privacy will be impacted, and that a walkway could lead to increased antisocial behaviour in the area.

I am also concerned that the proposed walkway could be unsafe for users as there are two points along the route where users will have to cross busy roads.

From a biodiversity point of view, I believe the proposed walkway would interfere with wildlife in the area. For example, a heron has been nesting along the river bank for the past number of years, this has been a source of joy for many residents. I believe that in advance of any walkway being included in any plan, a full biodiversity study should be completed by an ecologist.

Main opinion:

Proposed walkway is not viable due to safety, security and biodiversity concerns

Main requests:

The walkway as proposed be removed from the local development plan

Main reasons:

Concerns about safety, security and biodiversity
