SUBMISSION TO ABBEYFEALE LOCAL AREA PLAN FROM ABBEYFEALE ORAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION  5th December 2022

1. We have an active and fully constituted Oral History Association in Abbeyfeale that is collecting interviews, documents and historical data and artefacts
2. We are looking for a physical local accessible place for our archive. This space will need to be spacious enough to accommodate some physical artefacts (we have looked at the library but it doesn’t have the space)
3. We feel that the former Bank of Ireland building would be very suitable for our purpose
4. Setting up this archive would cohere our community around our shared experiences
5. Importantly, a physical archive would also promote tourism to the town from our diaspora
6. Our AOHA project would like to collaborate with and benefit from the expertise of Limerick Archives and archivists
7. Quite a number of the oral histories we have collected are concerned with North Kerry as well as West Limerick so we see this collection as fostering linkages between the two counties
